Eighteen repeated earthquakes have been registered in the Kuril Islands chain over the past 24 hours.

On Sunday, 28 underground tremors were reported.

The Sakhalin region, which is a part of the Kurile Islands, felt no tremors which posed no tsunami threat.

Over the two-month seismic activity 400 repeated earthquakes hit the Sumashir Island.

Underground tremors have been detected near the Kurile Islands chain since November 15, 2006, when a 7.9-magnitude quake was registered there. On January 13, an 8.0-magnitude quake jolted the region.

At present, tremors under the Pacific Ocean bottom are slowing down and their intensity reducing.
