Sea storm subdues, snowfall continues on Sakhalin

The sea storm has subdued in the Tatar Strait near Sakhalin on Friday, allowing to re-start the ferry link to the mainland, however heavy snowfall continues and keeps the local airport closed for a third day.

Weathermen said the cyclone, which brought 1-2 meters of snow, is likely to leave Sakhalin and Kurile Islands by Friday evening.

The airport, where 22 flights were kept aground, is expected to reopen the same time.

Only one major accident was reported during the cyclone, when the Sofia fishing boat ran aground. All the 12 crewmembers were rescued.
