More than a dozen repeated earthquakes have occurred in the region of Kurile Islands since the beginning of Tuesday.

The strongest of them had a magnitude of 5.2 points on the Richter scale, sources at the Geophysical Service of the Russian Academy of Sciences said.

The latest quake was registered at 10:05 local time (00:05 GMT).

Quakes in the vicinity of the Kurile range of islands continue almost non-stop since November 15, when a shock totaling 7.9 points was registered under the Pacific Ocean bed 130 kilometers to the south of Samushir Island.

Experts at the Sakhalin center for tsunamis said the shock had generated a tsunami 4 meters high.

However, the wave was only 35 centimeters to 40 centimeters high when it reached populated islands of the Kurile range. On the Hawaii, the same tsunami was 60 centimeters to 70 centimeters high.

The seismic disturbance has compelled the Far-Eastern regional branch of the Emergency Situations Ministry to dispatch two teams of professional rescuers to the Islands of Iturup and Kunashir.

The teams have been deployed in the towns of Yuzhno-Kurilsk and Kurisk and aid to people at any moment, should an emergency situation develop.
