Another cyclone approaches Kuriles from Pacific

Another powerful cyclone with winds of up to 38 metres a second is moving from the Pacific to the Kurile Islands.

The first strike will hit the Southern Kuriles on Sunday morning.

The Emergencies Ministry's Sakhalin regional department issued a storm warning for several times.

According to the forecast, waves will be as high as eight metres in the Sea of Okhotsk and up to six metres in the north of the sea, in the Tatar Strait. The level of precipitation on the islands will reach 50 millimeters in 24 hours, a department officer on duty, Valery Kukh, told Itar-Tass.

The cyclone on Sunday will move from the Southern Kuriles to the eastern coast of Sakhalin, reach the Shantar Islands in the Sea of Okhotsk on Monday and leave for the Khabarovsk Territory, meteorologists say.

The Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk sea rescue coordinating centre repeated the storm warning for all the vessels, and they have moved to nearest shelter places.

A motorboat with a crew of eight people that was in distress was brought from the Tatar Strait to the port of Uglegorsk on Saturday. The control system of the vessel broke down two days ago when it was 16 miles off the coast. The trawler Nevelsk and the tugboat Priboi helped the vessel to get to Uglegorsk.
