Radiation background normal in Russia’s Far East

No increase in the radioactive background has been detected in any of the five Russian regions in the Far East after North Korea staged a nuclear test close to the Russian territory on October 9.

The Far Eastern emergencies center said on Friday intensive monitoring launched immediately after the test showed the background was from 10 to 15 micro Roentgen per hour in Primorye, Khabarovsk, Amur, Sakhalin regions and the Jewish autonomous area. The permissible level is 20-25 micro Roentgen per hour.

However, emergency and other experts continue to monitor the situation in all the regions.
