Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk-Harbin air service reopens Thursday after an eight-year interval. A Boeing-737 airliner of the Sakhalin Airways (SAT) Company leaves here to bring 109 passengers to Harbin.

Passenger airliners first began to ply between Sakhalin Island and China in 1998. However, due to an ensuing economic crisis, the Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk-Harbin air route had to be closed down. It is currently in demand again.

Sakhalin tourists used to make flights to China in a roundabout way via Khabarovsk and Vladivostok while Chinese businessmen have been getting to Sakhalin similarly. Beginning from Thursday, there will be no need for them to make stopovers at intermediate airports any longer.

The SAT press service has announced that airliners will make flights between Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk and Harbin once a week. Flight time is two hours and forty minutes.
