New Sakhalin gas pipeline ready for commissioning

The gas pipeline between Komsomolsk-on-Amur and Khabarovsk is ready for putting into operation.

The last joint was welded on Thursday at the gas-distribution station No. 1 in a Khabarovsk suburb. It is the last facility of the pipeline which will ensure supplies of gas from Sakhalin to heat and power station No. 1 of the territorial center by the start of the coming heating season.

Governor of the Khabarovsk Territory Viktor Ishayev specially underlined that "a long-term contract on gas sales to the territory up to the year 2025 was signed with the consortium under the Sakhalin-1 project. Incidentally, the price for fuel was fixed for the entire period of the contract."

Workers completed construction of the trunk gas pipeline between Komsomolsk-on-Amur and Khabarovsk with a length of 445 kilometers as well as all infrastructure installations, lines of communications and power supply. They also installed equipment at 25 points of control over gas transportation along the trunk pipeline. Reserve runs with a diameter of 720 mm, as is the case with the main gas pipeline, were laid down across water bodies.

The cost of the project is 9.8 billion roubles. Incidentally, the main part of expenses (70 percent) was shouldered by the Khabarovsk Territory.

The ceremony of putting into operation the pipeline is scheduled for October 5 and is timed to coincide with the Far Eastern economic forum to be held in Khabarovsk.

"This is a pioneer project of gasification for the entire Russian Far East," Ishayev told reporters. He specially emphasized that "the pipeline' s throughput capacity is 4.5 billion cubic meters annually. The territory is now able to consume only 2.5 billion cubic meters".

Heat and power stations in Khabarovsk will be the first to switch over to gas. Then, southern districts of the territory will be gasified. The governor also noted that gas can be supplied to an aluminum mill which is planned to be built in the area of Komsomolsk-on-Amur, Amursk or near the Vanino port.
