FESCO Ice-Breakers Arrive in De-Kastri

The ice-breakers Admiral Makarov and Krasin left the port of Vladivostok and laid a course for the oil terminal of De-Kastri in the Khabarovsk Territory. As the FESCO reports, this was the beginning of the winter season of marine oil shipment of the Sakhalin I project in the Tatar Strait for the second year in a row.

Once the ice-breakers arrived in De-Kastri on December 26, they started providing ice-channelling for super-large tankers (over 100,000 tons deadweight each), which transport crude oil from the Sakhalin shelf to ports around the Asian-Pacific region.

In the winter navigation season, the crews of the ice-breakers and the tankers will make use of their last year's experience of work together. The FESCO received a letter of gratitude from Exxon Neftegas Ltd., the Sakhalin I project leader, for accident-free and efficient ice-breaking during last year's season.

In summer both ice-breakers underwent quality dock maintenance and modernization. Their crews are led by experienced captains Leonid BUDRIS and Gennadiy ANTOKHIN.

The ice-channeling is carried out in the framework of a ten-year contract between the Far Eastern Shipping Company (FESCO) and Exxon Neftegas Ltd.
