A powerful cyclone, which brought a strong snowfall to the Primorsky Territory (Primorye), is moving towards the Kamchatka Peninsula. It is expected to reach the Kamchatka coast on Monday night, a representative of the Kamchatka Weather Forecasting Centre told Itar-Tass.

At present the atmospheric whirlwind is moving towards the northern part of the Sakhalin Island with a speed of 40 to 50 kilometres per hour. Later on it will change its direction and move towards the Sea of Okhotsk, and will start influencing the Kamchatka Peninsula. The south-western coast of the peninsula will be the first to be hit by the cyclone. According to preliminary forecasts, the wind speed will exceed 20 metres per second. Then the cyclone will cover the whole of the Kamchatka Region. A strong snowfall and snowstorm are to be expected.

Kamchatka weather forecasters are monitoring the cyclone. If need be, a storm warning will be issued to the corresponding services. Specialists say the weather on March 8 will hardly resemble a spring.
